Massage Therapy Certificate Program
The massage therapy certificate program offered at Lackawanna College’s Lake Region Center in Hawley, PA, equips you with in-demand skills and training to obtain an entry-level position as a certified massage therapist.
Our program will prepare you to take the MBLEx (Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam) offered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Board (FSMTB). The non-credit program is compliant with Pennsylvania state guidelines.

The massage therapy training students receive through Lackawanna College’s certificate program teaches them techniques and marketable skills from experienced professors and professionals working in this growing healthcare field. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, massage therapists earn a median pay of $42,820 per year, and the field is expected to grow by 22% through 2028.*
Licensed graduates may seek employment in spas, rehab clinics, hospitals, hotels and resorts, cruise ships, sports facilities, chiropractic practices, health and wellness centers, long-term care facilities, or private practices.

WHAT’S INVOLVED IN OUR MASSAGE THERAPY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM?
Lackawanna’s massage therapy certificate program combines comprehensive courses from qualified instructors with clinical instruction. The program includes 720 hours of in-classroom instruction and 96 hours of a supervised, hands-on clinical externship at the Lodge at Woodloch in Hawley.

After completing the six-month program, students will have a solid foundation of anatomy and physiology and be able to perform a variety of manual massage techniques. You will be able to apply your skills to help patients improve their circulation, manage their pain, reduce their stress, and maintain their health and wellbeing.
Classes are held Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students will be instructed in anatomy and physiology, pathology, allied modalities, massage I theory, massage II research, kinesiology, therapeutic medical massage/sports massage, hydrotherapy/aromatherapy, Swedish massage, and business ethics and law.
Upon completion of the massage therapy program, students will be prepared to take the MBLEx (Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam) offered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Board (FSMTB).
WHAT ARE OTHER STUDENT REQUIREMENTS?
Students entering the program are required to pass a physical exam, ACCUPLACER exam, and the Pennsylvania criminal background check.
Lackawanna College offers some of the most affordable certification courses in northeastern Pennsylvania. Tuition for the massage therapy program is $7,500 and includes a massage table, books, licensing exam fee, CPR certification from the American Heart Association, a subscription to Massage Prep training, and clinical externship. Physical examination, background check, state license fee and scrubs are an additional $215.
